I am inspired by the idea that future generations will be able to enjoy these open spaces, nature and fresh air in perpetuity. I have a deep appreciation for the breathtaking diversity and beauty of our local protected natural spaces. I have lived west of South Skyline in Ward 6 for 45 years and have hiked, biked and enjoyed many local and Bay Area trails. I commit to continuing the environmental stewardship I have always supported in my prior positions as Palo Alto Mayor, Councilmember, Planning Commissioner and now as a member of the Midpen Board. The thought it takes to arrive at the best possible outcomes for the lands and wildlife while also creating environmentally sensitive access takes thoughtful and reasoned study. Serving on the Midpen Board as President in 2020 and now as Board member, my respect for how complex issues can be has only grown. My commitment is to responsible preservation and use of open space lands whether on the bayside or coastside. Whether we hike our open spaces on a regular basis or experience improved air quality due to carbon that forest trees sequester from the environment, open space has multiple benefits to all of us. And the value of them to the public has been demonstrated by a doubling of visitors coming to Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District Preserves during Covid. Having lived in the area since 1975, my appreciation for open spaces has only grown. I respectfully ask for your vote on November 8. I am proud to have earned Sierra Club’s endorsement.

I bring my Stanford MBA and experience as Mayor of Palo Alto, a passionate hiker, mother of two and environmental leader to this board. Given our busy lives and climate change, the role of open space is more important than ever. Midpen just celebrated our 50th anniversary of serving our inspiring and enduring mission to acquire a greenbelt of open space to preserve in perpetuity, restore the natural environment, and provide opportunities for ecologically sensitive public use and education. I was the Valley Water Commission Chair for two years and currently serve as Commissioner for Santa Clara County Local Agency Commission (LAFCO) which works to protect agricultural and open space lands and promote good governance. We are working on many projects including coastal preserves, regional trails, watershed restoration, and youth outreach.Īdditionally, I represent open space interests on many regional boards. Umunhum summit, La Honda Creek and Bear Creek Redwoods are three major preserves now open for your enjoyment. Since the passage of Measure AA in 2014, we have been busy opening wonderful preserves. I have the honor of representing you on the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District in Ward 2. I’ve built sustainable trails and led crews creating great open space experiences with the highest environmental standards at San Vicente Redwoods. I’ll work for you. I take the same approach in my open space advocacy: Reaching out to equestrians, hikers, cyclists, and others to find joint solutions for access and experience. In my technology career, I bring people together to find creative and user-friendly solutions to difficult problems. I’m an avid hiker, cyclist, and environmentalist and my daughter is an equestrian. I’ve demonstrated success in working with user groups, Midpen staff and board to promote better experiences without compromise to Midpen’s ecological values. Includes my analyses of trail topics and Measure AA, provided to Midpen while attending almost every minute of board meetings over the past year. This includes: Focusing on trails for people, not roads road-to-trail conversion and using hike/bike and hike/equestrian trails for optimized experiences and separation of uses. As your representative for Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District Ward 1, I will work to accelerate the delivery of Measure AA’s promised 200 miles of new trails and to ensure best practices for positive mixed user experiences as well as environmental protection.
